DETAILS:
Terry Gilliam and Sir Michael Palin gathered with friends and fans to mark the World Origin Site of Monty Python at a humble curry restaurant in Hampstead, London. The Light of Kashmir, now Aroma Spice is where the team met for a curry in May 1969 with ideas of tearing up the TV comedy rule book forever. They certainly managed that as the talented team created groundbreaking television programmes, records, books, shows and films. Sir Micheal Palin said “We all came up here after meeting at my house which was the first time Python got around a table anywhere and we came here to the Light Of Kashmir as it was then. All I remember was arguments over the bill! John didn’t want to pay and Eric wanted to pay in dollars, so in the end we all just ran away.” Said very much in jest. Terry Gilliam, the team’s animator and now Oscar winning Hollywood writer and director remarked on the plaque’s unique design “I’m thrilled that the Bronzino foot is being used. People go and see the painting now just to ask where the Monty Python foot is.” As the two unveiled the plaque Gilliam shouted “We’re famous Michael, we’re famous!” One fan Kent-Mikael Edoff had tavelled all the way from Sweden just for the event and presented the restaurant with a Monty Python Holy Grail souvenir. The restaurant team were thrilled with the response and their recognition as a World Origin Site especially by two original members of the Monty Python team.
