Landau Marine at Supermarine Quay, Southampton, is the accredited World Origin Site where the first production Spitfire rolled off the line in 1938. Building on R.J. Mitchell’s legacy of world-beating Schneider Trophy seaplanes, the Supermarine team transitioned their expertise in high-speed design to create this iconic fighter. Landau Marine recently celebrated this heritage by unveiling a commemorative plaque during a special open day, which featured expert historical talks and a live demonstration of a Merlin engine.

Laundau Marine at Supermarine Quay, Southampton has been accredited as a World Origin Site for the place where the first Spitfire came off the production line in 1938. The team at Supermarine had established their ability to design and build fast planes during the era of R.J.Mitchell’s world beating Schneider Trophy seaplanes and went on to create the Spitfire.
