DETAILS:
In March 2026, the legendary sci-fi franchise celebrated a monumental milestone, marking 50 years since principal photography began on the first Star Wars film on March 22, 1976, in the scorching deserts of Tunisia. This iconic location famously served as the real-life backdrop for the desert planet of Tatooine, where George Lucas and his crew shot the very first scenes—including the Lars family’s purchase of C-3PO and R2-D2 from the local Jawas. To commemorate this historic first day of filming, Propstore founder Stephen Lane helped mark the anniversary by hosting the World Origin Site plaque alongside original props from the first production. The plaque, officially designated as Plaque WOS0095 and championed by Jeremy King, was premiered directly at the Lars Homestead location by Galaxy Tours CEO Davin Anderson as part of their 50th Anniversary Tour and Concert in Tunisia. Currently, Galaxy Tours are helping liaise with local authorities to explore permanently placing the plaque at this culturally significant World Origin Site, preserving its legacy as fans look forward to the Star Wars 50th Anniversary theatrical re-release in 2027.
