DETAILS:

Dolby Labs was founded in London in 1965 by American engineer Ray Dolby and it revolutionized the world of sound with the invention of the Dolby Noise Reduction system, an innovative audio signal processing technology that significantly reduced background hiss in cassette tape recordings. While the breakthrough was introduced the same year the company was founded, Dolby filed his first U.S. patent for the system in 1969.

The technology made its commercial debut with Decca Records in the UK, setting a new standard for sound clarity. Dolby’s A301 unit, the first professional-grade noise reduction system, soon became a staple in the recording industry, as well as in film, broadcasting, and communications. This milestone marked the beginning of Dolby’s legacy as a global leader in audio technology, paving the way for future innovations in motion picture, home entertainment, broadcasting and communications networks.
